Italy’s public broadcaster RAI has secured a selection of premium European series from Beta, bringing some of the continent’s most acclaimed crime and family shows to Italian audiences. The deal includes the gripping French mystery thriller Homejacking, Spain’s critically acclaimed Rapa, as well as the German crime movie cycles Murder in the Valley and Crimes of Crete, which recently premiered in Germany with almost 5 million viewers and a market share of almost 20%, making it the primetime winner. Beta Kids & Family titles, including the audience-favorite Prisma, the Norwegian coming-of-age series Rumors, and the charming holiday series Campsite, along with several other exciting shows, are set to captivate young audiences on RAI.

 

Series Mania 2024 Competition entry Homejacking (6x1h) is written and created by Lupin writers Tigran Rosine and Florent Meyer in collaboration with Emmanuelle Faguer. The series kicks off in an affluent suburban residence where a middle-class couple are the victims of an intrusion by a hooded assailant. No one knows yet what he is looking for, but deep in their basement lies a secret that was hidden for decades. Homejacking is produced by Lincoln TV with the participation of OCS.

 

From the creators of Spanish hit series Hierro, Rapa (18x1h) was praised by international media as "fascinating as well as enthralling, calming and intriguing" (Vertele) and “a high-quality crime thriller with a bit of politics, a lot of psychology, and atmospheric shots from Galicia” (FAZ). The series follows high school teacher Tomas and local cop Maite, who become an unlikely team solving a murder case. The series is produced by Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Portocabo.

 

Murder in the Valley (2x2h, UFA Fiction), a crime movie cycle produced for RTL Germany, follows a self-confessed Italian and a tough big-city cop, who team up to investigate brutal murders in the rural parts of Germany’s rust belt, while in Crimes of Crete (2x2h, Relevant Film Production), seasoned detective Eleni returns to Crete, not only to solve murders on the Island of Gods, but also to heal the wounds of the past.

 

The award-winning young adult coming-of-age series Prisma (16x45') explores the complex relationship between identity, aspirations, physical appearance, and sexual orientation in a group of teenagers. Produced by Cross Productions, part of the Beta Group, the series already has a dedicated online following in Italy and beyond.  

 

Rumors also revolves around a group of teenagers, this time on a small island in Norway. Produced by Mothership Entertainment, Rumors (30x12') captures the whole teenage experience: emotions, friendships, identity searches, young love, and, of course, rumors that spread online!
