Beta’s series cycle The Net, offering a glimpse behind the curtains of the global football business, ranks at the top of the ARD-Mediathek’s series streaming charts. Both, The Net – Promised Land and The Net- Prometheus are featured amongst the Top five series in the ARD-Mediathek and have been critically acclaimed by the media. According to Screen International Magazine: "The Net is just the latest example of an ambitious TV drama that aspires to have a strong local identity while also working globally.", while Blickpunkt Film describes the series as "...an intricately conceived, gripping crime series about the billion-dollar business of football...", with Der Spiegel proclaiming: "The script knows more tricks than Cristiano Ronaldo. Not only is the cast fabulous, so are the actors' performances and the set."

Surrounding The Net in the Top 5 of pubcaster ARD’s streaming service are more Beta shows with Helsinki Syndrome and You Shall Not Lie. Helsinki Syndrome already achieved excellent linear ratings on its home turf in Finland on Yle, with around 350k viewers per episode against strong competition (Dancing with the Stars). Furthermore, as one of the most successful Moviestar Plus+ originals airing on the streamer this year, Spain’s biggest pay-TV/SVOD operator, You Shall Not Lie has been sold to key territories, amongst them Italy’s public broadcaster Rai and HBO Max for Eastern Europe, Benelux, the Nordics, Netherlands, Portugal.

 

 

About The Net

 

The Net consists of three standalone series of altogether 22 hours of unprecedented storytelling: The Net – Power Play, The Net – Promised Land and The Net – Prometheus.

Each of the projects is connected to a single universe with some characters reappearing in other series, revealing hidden motives and new perspectives weaving into a cross border narrative. The Net- series are set in Germany and Ghana, Great Britain and Austria, as well as Italy and China. Beta and Red Bull Media House bundled their expertise in the joint venture Das Netz GmbH, the co-producer for all series, to ensure the development and realization of high-quality international co-productions as well as the ability to tell and create local storylines globally.

The global series is based on the original idea of Matthias Hartmann and Plinio Bachmann. The Net – Promised Land is produced by Sommerhaus Serien GmbH in co-production with Das Netz GmbH, commissioned by ARD Degeto for ARD. The Net – Prometheus is produced by MR-Film in co-production with ServusTV, ARD Degeto and Das Netz GmbH, whereas The Net – Power Play is produced by Cross Productions in co-production with Das Netz GmbH.
