Unlimited Success for Beta’s “Murder by the Lake”
Munich, 2 May 2017. With eight million viewers and primetime-wins in all target groups, Murder by the Lake has again proven its #1 position in Beta Film’s movie cycle catalogue. The latest installment, Murder by the Lake – Till Death Do Them Part, earned the highest ratings for fiction at public broadcaster ZDF this year. With 7.98 million viewers (22.8 % market share) and 13.7 % (viewers 14 – 49 years) on May 1st, it left the German Who Wants to be a Millionaire as well as successful Hollywood productions such as Twilight and 12 Years a Slave far behind. The next episode Murder by the Lake – The Girl Who Loved to Laugh is already finished and will air on ZDF this fall. Within the next weeks, shooting will start for two new episodes of the Murder by the Lake-cycle; both will be ready for delivery later this year.
Directed by Hannu Salonen (“Shades of Guilt”), Murder by the Lake – Till Death Do Them Part again stars Matthias Koeberlin (“Jesus Video”) and Nora von Waldstaetten (“Famous Five”). It is the most successful installment of the cycle, each of them winning the primetime with a 20 percent market share or higher. With three nations – Germany, Switzerland and Austria – sharing its shores, marvelous Lake Constance allows crimes to travel across borders and pushes national police to join forces despite very different mentalities. Murder by the Lake (14 hours/7x90’) is produced by Beta subsidiary Rowboat Film- und Fernsehproduktion in co-production with Graf Filmproduktion, ZDF and ORF. Beta Film is handling world sales.
