C21: ABC to remake Salamander

Feb 01 2017

ABC in the US has added two scripted pilots to its slate with a remake of a Belgian drama and a spy show starring Toni Collette.

Salamander is from Jeff Pinkner and is based on the 2012 Belgian show that explored the life of a detective who investigates a theft but becomes entangled in a wider conspiracy.

Exec producers of the remake include Pinkner, Andre Nemec, Josh Applebaum and Scott Rosenberg, who will also write under their Midnight Radio label. Israel's Keshet and Germany's Beta Film are also attached as exec producers, with ABC Studios producing.

The original 12×60′ series, from Belgian prodco Skyline Entertainment, aired on local network VRT and sold internationally to channels including BBC4 in the UK.

Meanwhile, espionage drama Unit Zero is from Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and follows the life of an unassuming CIA engineer and single mother who operates a team on covert missions.

Writer Lindsey Shockley exec produces alongside Barris, who is also working on ABC comedy pilot Libby & Malcolm. Collette and David Gordon Green are also exec producers, with ABC Studios producing.
