Beta Film plans to acquire majority share in Vienna’s MR Film
Munich, 27. November 2017. To further expand production business, Vienna's MR Film is partnering up with Munich's Beta Film. Pending approval by cartel authorities, Beta Film will acquire 51% of the tradition-rich production company. MR's executive management as well as their principal office in Vienna will remain unaltered.
MR Film and Beta Film are connected by a decades-long partnership on numerous series, miniseries, TV movies, and feature films, among them the successful ORF/ZDF production Hotel Sacher, which was produced together with Constantin Film, Andreas Prochaska's Maximilian and Marie de Bourgogne, Robert Dornhelm's opera adaptation La Bohème starring world-renounced soprano Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón, as well as Dornhelm's two-part miniseries Maria Theresa, which will be broadcast this Christmas on ORF. MR Film, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is also the production company behind the Austrian cult series Suburbia – Women on the Edge and the crime series Fast Forward, which is currently in its 6th season.
MR's directors Andreas Kamm and Oliver Auspitz: "Beta Film is a logical and, most importantly, trusted partner, which allows us to continue our success in the German-language market as well as stepping onto the international stage. This way, we are able to boost our in-house production efforts with our writers and directors and further advance Austria's standing as a stronghold for culture and media. We see this as of the utmost importance, especially with the shift going on with digitalization and new ways of distribution. We are pleased to being able to welcome Jan Mojto, Moritz von Kruedener and David Kratz at MR Film."
Beta Film CEO Jan Mojto: "We are – and I personally am – deeply connected to MR Film and their founder Kurt Mrkwicka by a decades-long partnership; even more so by a strong friendship. Among many remarkable large-scale productions, we have also partnered on one of the first European high-end series back in the 1990s, The Strauss Dynasty, which was shot in English and had a successful international run.
We are delighted to be able to continue this tradition with Andreas Kamm and Oliver Auspitz and to continuously create successful productions in Austria with Austrian writers, directors, and actors, not only for German-speaking territories but also for the international market."
